Project Lifesaver International is an organization devoted to the safe, rapid return of disabled persons who go missing. By partnering with law enforcement agencies nation-wide, they are able to offer equipment and training that aids in the return of missing persons.
Project Lifesaver relies on proven radio technology and a specially trained search and rescue team. Clients (Autistic children, Alzheimer's patients, for example) that are enrolled in the Project Lifesaver program wear a personalized wristband that emits a tracking signal. When caregivers notify the local Project Lifesaver agency that the person is missing, a search and rescue team from the Sheriff's Office and/or Police Department responds to the wanderer's area and starts searching with the mobile locater tracking system.
Search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes. In over 1500 searches, there have been no reported serious injuries or deaths. Recovery times average less than 30 minutes.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and S.A.L.T. (Seniors And Lawmen Together) would like to offer this program for no charge to families and caregivers in the county. The initial cost to implement the program is approximately $16,000, which includes all equipment and training for deputies and officers.
We need your help raising the money to provide this vital resource to those in need in our county! For more information, please contact Deputy Courtney Spriggs at cbspriggs@forsythco.com and see www.projectlifesaver.org.
