Little Miss Forsyth Pageant will be held Oct. 4, at the Cumming Country Fair. Contestants ages 0-19 will compete on the Covered Main Stage Arena, at the Cumming Fairgrounds. Deadline to enter is Sept. 26 Winners will represent Forsyth County for the next year and will be introduced at the official Miss Forsyth County pageant. Go to www.missforsythcounty.org for additional information. Little Miss Forsyth County pageant is an official sister pageant to Miss Forsyth County, a preliminary to the Miss Georgia Scholarship pageant, a part of the Miss America Organization. Little do we learn about having beauty competitions for little girls? Does the name JonBenet Ramsey ring a bell?

Why do we insist on pressuring little girls into keeping toothpick thin, even if it means becoming anorexic or bulimic; make sure that they are the most beautiful, irregardless of whether they look like street-walkers as children?

Why do we teach our little girls that they have to be perfect or they’re nothing? Why not let little girls be a child and not an object of beauty, as true beauty is under the skin and not the skin? I can see pretty baby contests, but I do not agree with making little girls an object of beauty as that is what attracts pedophiles.

Remember that VANITY is one of the seven deadly sins!

FYI. I am the Father of three of the most wonderful girls in the world (17, 9 & 3), but I would never let them compete in such contests until they are old enough to make their own decisions and are living on their own.
