With the 4th County Administrator (hired in the last four years) being booted by the County Commission this week, and being paid out with approximately $150K of our County's money, I feel that the time has come for Forsyth County to have Checks & Balances in the Government.
Most States and a few Counties in Georgia elect their County's Administrator or Executive, which takes all of the control out of the legislative Branch, which included hiring the Administrator (Conflict of Interest), and give it to the voting citizens of the County. By doing so, it makes sure that the interests of the citizens of the County are looked after, despite the beliefs of the Commissioners. The power of a veto is a tool to make sure that the Commissioners toe the line.
To do this would require the Amending of the County's Charter to make change the Post of County Administrator from an appointed position to the Elected Position of County Executive. The County Executive would need to be a Citizen of Forsyth County at least five years to be eligible to run for office and I would also recommend that the term of office be set to four years with a limit of three consecutive terms before having to sit out at least one term before becoming eligible to run for the office again.
I would also recommend that if amending the County Charter was needed, that we also change the Commission and School Board as well. I would make all Commission and School Board members be elected solely by the residents of their Districts and set a limit of three terms of office, and then be required to sit out at least one full term before running for that office again.
Also, in the event of a recall of the Executive or a Commissioner, the salary ceases as of the date that the Citizens of the County recall the individual.
The Power belongs to the people, not the politicians, as they are in office at the citizens will.
Now, I want to make it clear that I do not feel that the Commission is not looking for the Citizens interest, but there is an impression that some of the Commissioners may looking at the interests of the County’s wealthiest citizens and not looking at the interests of their District’s citizens.
