Take Me To Post Comment Form

The Forsyth County Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Post # 9143 is conducting its annual local Citizenship Education Competition.

The VFW launched the National Citizenship Education Teacher Award in 1999 to recognize classroom teachers for promoting citizenship education with their students. The award is given to one teacher from each of the three grade categories (K-5, 6-8 & 9-12) and is open to all public and private schools in Forsyth County.

Each National Award teacher winner and his/her school receive a $1,000 Past Commander-in-Chief John Smart Award and a plaque.

Each school in Forsyth County should have received an official nomination brochure from the Post Chairman since the start of the school year, and submission of the nomination packet is due to V.F.W. Post 9143 no later than November 1st, any nomination packets submitted after that date or incomplete will be disqualified.

If your school has not received the nomination brochure, you can email me at vfw@mcmahon-ga.net and I will email you a PDF copy of the brochure. All I request is to include the name of the school you are from.

Are there any Forsyth County Teachers or School Administrators (Public and Private) out there?

Do your teachers teach their students about patriotism?

Have your School Administrator submit an entry to the Forsyth County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 9143, as we (the VFW) desire to recognize those teachers who actively promote patriotism in their classroom.

Out of the entries submitted, Post 9143 will judge the entries from all across the County and based on Primary (K-5), Intermediate (6-8) and Secondary Schools (9-12) and submit them to the 9th GA VFW District for further judging against the winners from all Posts within the District, and then the the same to the Department (State) and National.
Each National Award teacher winner and his/her school receive a $1,000 Past Commander-in-Chief John Smart Award and a plaque and there are other awards along the way up.

The entry deadline is rapidly approaching as they must be at the VFW Post (1045 Dahlonega Highway, Cumming 30040) BEFORE November 1st. Entry forms should have been received by the Administrator of every Public and Private School n Forsyth County, but if your administrator has not received it, please email me at vfw@mcmahon-ga.net and I will email the pdf file of the entry packet brochure to you. We don't usually receive much response from the public schools, but I would love to see that trend reversed and an entry from every school in Forsyth County be submitted. a heartfelt Thank You goes out to all teachers that teaches patriotism in their classrooms and another Thank You, in advance, goes to the Administrators who submit an entry.

With only two weeks until the deadline, there has only been one school that has submitted a teacher for this competition.
There are three competitions for the Teacher Award: Primary School (K-5), Intermediate (6-9), and Secondary (9-12). Each school in these categories is allowed to submit one entry to the local (Forsyth County) Post.

There are SIXTEEN Primary, Seven Intermediate and Six Secondary Schools in the Forsyth County Public School System, and in addition there are several Private schools in Forsyth County as well.
Is it that today's educators and/or school administrators do not promote patriotism in their schools and classrooms and not having anyone worthy of submission?
I pray that the answer to that is no, and that schools teach and promote patriotism, and will be submitting an entry for the VFW Teacher's Award. All entries must be delivered to the VFW Post at 1045 Dahlonega Highway no later than November 1st.
