I know that there are many more people in Forsyth County that hates having to go to another county to pick up their certified mail and packages that require signatures. Please go to the following website:
http://www.petitiononline.com/mpm00001 and add your name to the list that will be submitted to the United States Postmaster General to request that all Forsyth County Residents be given a mailing address that is identifiable with Forsyth County Only!
I would like to bring this topic back to the forefront as I am looking to get at least 2500 signatures before this petition is sent to the Postmaster General. If you live in one of these areas, and have not signed this petition, please take the time to go and sign, and then go to your neighbors and tell them of this petition drive and get them to sign the petition as well, as we need numbers to move the bureaucrat's philosophies.
Sounds like a waste of time and energy. Are there any statistics that emergency services, other than those called via cell/mobile phone, have been impacted by not having a "Forsyth" address? Besides, I'd rather have an Alpharetta address than have to tell someone I live in Cumming. The name alone, esp. for those out of state, is a little odd.
DavidA,
I don't feel that it is a waste of time or energy to give were live its own identity. I live in the area that is under Gainesville, and when I tell someone that, they ask, "I thought you lived in Forsyth County, not Hall." I then have to explain the differences in Physical and Mailing Addresses, which gets tiring after the first dozen or so times. So, since you live in Cumming and have a Cumming Address, you don't have to deal with the problems.
Georgia is the only state, I know of, that has unincorporated areas, and trying to explain it to people who are used to everyone living in a Town, Village, Borough, Township, Hamlet or whatever official political municipalities that all residents of just about every other state uses, below the County or Parrish level of Government.
You may think it is a waste of time and effort to change the status-quo, but to me it is a most worthwhile effort to give everyone who lives in our county its own identity, rather than one that belongs to another county.
